Your HeartScore

The HeartScore calculator takes about 5 minutes to complete. The calculator will give you a percentage score (your HeartScore) for your overall cardiovascular health (the higher your HeartScore the better). The calculation uses a range of evidence-based factors, gathered over many years by medical researchers, and it combines both your absolute and relative risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

The calculator will also give you your percentage risk of experiencing a cardiovascular event in the next 5 years (the lower the percentage risk the better). This is your absolute, or actual, percentage risk of experiencing such an event within the next 5 years, based on the information which you entered. A cardiovascular event includes a heart attack (myocardial infarction), angina, stroke, transient ischaemic attack (TIA), and peripheral arterial disease (arterial disease in the legs).

Depending on your results, and on your answers to certain questions, the calculator may also recommend that you see your doctor for a check-up and that you provide your doctor with your HeartScore results. In that event you can print out the results page for that purpose.

The calculator will also identify what you can do to improve risk factors that are within your control to change, and which you should make an effort to change in order to improve your HeartScore. These are lifestyle factors, and they might include such things as your diet, your alcohol consumption, physical exercise and smoking.

HeartScore Calculator

The HeartScore calculator will:

  • Calculate your HeartScore, which is a measure of your overall cardiovascular health.
  • Calculate your absolute risk of experiencing a cardiovascular event within the next 5 years.
  • Advise if you should see your doctor for a check-up, based on your answers and your results.
  • Identify factors which are within your control to change and which you should try to improve.

Important Information

  • The HeartScore calculator is not intended to provide, and is not a substitute for, medical advice of the type provided by qualified medical professionals. For specific medical diagnoses and advice relating to your own cardiovascular health, see your doctor.
  • The HeartScore calculator is unlikely to provide you with accurate results if you already have cardiovascular or related disease, and in that event you should not use the calculator.
  • The HeartScore calculator estimates your risk of having a cardiovascular event in the next 5 years, based on the information you enter. However, that estimate is not a prediction. Your actual risk of experiencing a cardiovascular event in the next 5 years may be different from the estimate shown, due to factors specific to you and which are not taken into account by the calculator.
